Book One in the Maggie Kelly Mystery Series by New York Times Bestselling Author Kasey Michaels

Maggie Kelly, writing as Cleo Dooley (she thinks O's look good on a book cover), is the author of the best selling St. Just Mystery Series set in the English Regency Era. This should make her a happy woman, and it does, mostly. Professionally, she's a hit. Personally? No, not so much.

But never fear, a hero has come to rescue her from her dull, boring, and faintly neurotic existence. The only problem is that said hero is Alexandre Blake, Viscount St. Just, her fictional hero, in all his handsome, arrogant Regency-ness. He has popped out of her mind, out of her books, and has somehow landed in her New York apartment, along with his fictional sidekick, the adorable Sterling Balder.

Try explaining that one to your friends!

While juggling lies explaining her strange "houseguests," Maggie also finds herself the prime suspect in the murder of her publisher and former lover (just because she fed him mushrooms and he died of mushroom poisoning that same night -- really, there such a thing as coincidence, right?).

But again, never fear, because her fictional hero is here, and he, amateur sleuth-master that he has been created to be, has promised to step in and save the day. Maggie's pretty much hoping he'll just learn to put the cap back on the toothpaste...

Publishers Weekly "An audacious premise with deliciously funny results"

Unlike one of the reviewers of this book, I've always enjoyed the movie "Kate and Leopold", as well as having delighted in the occasional madcap mystery, so I found this novel delightful. I tend to agree with the reviewers who stated that it took a tad too long for the story to actually get 'round to the murder, but I understood that explaining this outlandish premise and introducing her anachronistic characters took considerable effort on the author's part. . Still, perhaps a bit of those first chapters could have been shaved, allowing one to get to the meat of the mystery a little sooner. Nevertheless, I'm pretty certain every reader will know all along who the intended victim is going to be, so my suggestion is to just enjoy the screwball good fun of the introductory chapters. If zany or daft premises aren't your thing, or if you have to have the murder within the first few pages of a cozy, then you'll probably want to give this book a miss. But if you are up for a book that is more of a romp, then settle back and enjoy the ride.

Unique "whodunit?" presentation with engaging characters! I'll admit to expecting "Maggie" to have "offed" the unexpected additions to her life [I won't go into detail on whom that might be as I don't want to spoil the fun] I DO recommend this to anyone who may have enjoyed "Kate & Leopold" a movie with Meg Ryan & Hugh Jackman, because there are some romantic similarities.
I love this book! And the rest of the series is great. I love the idea of the main characters coming to life. The characters adjustments to living in the 21st century are interesting and at time amusing. The plot's twists and turns will keep you reading. The characters are believable and have depth. The only bad about this book is that the series ended after the 6th book. I continue to hope that Ms. Michaels will be able to write more books for this series.
Kasey Michaels, like Maggie, her heroine, is a veteran writer of Regency Romances. Maggie's major character and his best friend materialize in Maggie's living room, pointing up to Maggie all of the characteristics of a Regency hero which would be infuriating in real life. What's worse, Maggie's particular specialty i s the Regency Romance Mystery. As the bodies pile up in this series, she is continually forced to rely on the assistance of her materialized hero to get herself and her friends out of business. Since one of her friends is her publisher, this leads to all sorts of complications related to the industry. All told, it is hilarious, and I hope that Michael's colleagues and publisher still talk to her after being so thoroughly skewered.
The premise is that a popular author of mysteries with romance, is confronted one day, by the two main characters in her series. Enter, Alexandre Saint Just, or Alex for modern times, and his best friend, Sterling Balder. Both gentlemen are detectives from the Regency period now residing in modern days, Manhattan.

Being a world class amateur sleuth, a natural 'hero', and a world-class lover, Saint Just is having a difficult time adjusting, but nothing to what, Maggie Kelly is experiencing.

To this mixture, Maggie finds herself a suspect in her publishers' death. She cooked the poisoned mushrooms! No worries, Saint Just, and Sterling to the rescue.

This book was written with humor, a complex mystery, and almost too many suspects that are each wacky characters. I did fall for Socks, a character with many attributes.

This is a cozy but has adult language and situations so watch out for the children. I will look for the next novel...Maggie By The Book.
Absolute fun with a different twist!

In AKiSA, is a wonderful time travel adventure as a knight from the past comes to the present & the heroine has to guide him into the intracasies of living in the present with, of course, the serious and the hilarious; in this first book, Maggie, the writer, has to deal with her fictional persons from the past coming into her life with a whole new set of issues.

It's a great romp of the imagination for a fun brain break!

May sound like it'll be just ridiculous, but it works!!! This is a real treat
A mixture of fantasy, mystery, comedy and romance. Michaels' sense of humor shines throughout. "Maggie" is a writer of mysteries and when her fictional characters from Regency England somehow come to life in her current-day American apartment, there are all sorts of possibilities for humorous situations as "Saint Just" and "Sterling" attempt to adjust to their new surroundings. When Maggie herself becomes entangled in a murder, the reader comes along for the ride following the clues to find out "who done it." A young Columbo-like police lieutenant provides the romance angle but that is very secondary to the mystery. It's one of the few books I've read lately where the heroes (both the lieutenant & Saint Just) don't end up in bed with the heroine!
I am So Excited that this series is finally available in the books. This series is one of my favorites and and I read the paperbacks several times. I love the characters and the way the idea made my mind try to figure out how this might/could happen. All my genres are here including comedy. The leading man is fabulous too. Its never a bad day when the leading man is dapper and the leading lady is just not confident; but is so into everything. I am so excited to visit an old friend again. thank you!
